MILITANTS’ INVASION: Delta communities send SOS to govts

Sapele— The people of Gbokoda, Alamita, Obaghoro, Ebrohimi, and Tebukporo communities in Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, have called on council authorities and state government to rebuild their houses burnt down during an invasion of the communities by militants, and restore economic life the communities.
The leaders of the communities, Mr. Karakitie Johnbull, Mr. Edward Omajugho, Mr. Wilson Erewa, Mr. Johnbull Oghanandokun and Mr. Richard Akpani spoke on behalf of their people.

They said: “Since our houses were burnt down by Ijaw militants on July 2, 2013, we have not been able to rebuild any of them owing to lack of funds, more so, as this is the time that going to the river or the bushes to work for money is no longer safe.

“There is still insecurity along the creeks occasioned by the same Ijaw militants. We, therefore, urge the two tiers of government in the state to build houses as we now live under trees like animals, because a situation where the victims of the invasion scramble to partition thatched homes under trees to live in is no longer convenient for us.”

They said they had heeded the state government’s advice not to avenge the attack and destruction of their homes, adding that none of the promises made by the government to rehabilitate the victims had been fulfilled.
