NNPC shuts down clinic in Lagos / 2 fresh Ebola cases confirmed in lagos
The Federal government has confirmed two more cases of Ebola virus disease in Lagos. This brings to a total of 9 confirmed cases in Nigeria, seven infected with the disease and two dead.
The federal government also said about 139 persons who have had direct or indirect contact with the confirmed cases are currently under surveillance.
There was panic in Victoria Island today aswell, after a suspected Ebola patient was found to be admitted at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC clinic on Muri Okunola.
The patient was said to have first been admitted at First Consultant Medical Centre around the same time Liberian Patrick Sawyer was being treated at the clinic. Men suited in white safety clothing and an ambulance were seen at the hospital around one 1pm today.
Though there's no definite confirmation that the patient is infected with Ebola, the Management of NNPC Clinic this evening announced the indefinite shutdown of the clinic.
The management said its a pre-emptive step and also said they have reported the issue to the Federal Ministry of Health as well as officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health. More pics after the cut

US Ebola patient Dr. Kent Brantly speaks out - read his statement
Dr. Kent Brantly, one of the two US doctors who contracted the Ebola virus in Liberia, has spoken out for the first time. Too early to send experimental Ebola drug to Africa – Obama says
US President, Barack Obama said yesterday August 6th that it's too early to send the unapproved experimental drug, Zmapp serum to Africa where the outbreak of the Ebola virus has recorded more deaths and threatens human existence.
Zmapp serum has proven to be effective in treating Ebola cases as two American doctor infected with the virus in Liberia are currently being treated in the US and are said to have improved after the use of the drug. Continue...

Spain treats first case of Ebola; Spanish priest & nun test positive
A Spanish nun named Paciencia Melgar working in Equatorial Guinea has also tested positive to Ebola and will also be repatriated to Spain.
The priest and the nun belonged to a Catholic humanitarian group that runs hospitals around the world, and had been helping to treat patients infected with the virus when they were infected.

The Army Commander whose unit revolted yesterday May 14th in Maiduguri (read here) has been removed by the Nigerian Army.
Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chris Olukolade, announced the removal of Major General Ahmadu Mohammed in a statement released today.
The Commander's battalion revolted yesterday, shooting sporadically after seeing the bodies of their colleagues who had been ambushed and killed by Boko Haram in Chibok. They also complained of not getting adequate weaponry to fight Boko Haram and poor conditions. The soldiers shot at their commander during the mutiny but didn't kill him.
EFCC arraigns two for defrauding a South African of $60,000
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned the duo of Nnanna Kalu, 26 and Ukaegbu Arisa Oti, 27, before Justice F. A. Olubanjo of the Federal High Court Umuahia, Abia State on a 28-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense and forgery.
The two are alleged to be part of a five-man syndicate that defrauded one Michael J. Firm (a South African) of the sum of $60,000 (sixty thousand dollars) under the pretense of registering his company with National Agency for Foods Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, to enable it supply the Federal Ministry of Defence with pre-cooked meals in sachets. Okada Riders Association members club man to death in Lagos
According to a Punch report, trouble started on April 14th when a faction of the association went into the motor park around 8.30pm and attacked another faction called O-Yes which the late Jimoh belonged to, with the intention of wrestling the chairmanship position from them. During the fight, Jimoh was attacked with a machete and sticks and left to die. He later died in the hospital.

Violence erupted yesterday in Kachia town, the headquarters of Kachia local government area of Kaduna State, leading to the burning down of three worship places.
There had been tension in the town since the destruction of a part of the fence of an Eid (Sallah) ground.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity confirmed that trouble started when some youths woke up and discovered that one part of the fence that surrounded the Muslims’ Eid ground that was earlier renovated and fenced had been damaged by unknown persons.

Chibok: FG rejects Boko Haram’s proposal
The Federal Government has said it would not negotiate with Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau following the demands he made this morning in a video he released showing the kidnapped girls.
In an interview with AFP, Interior Minister, Abba Moro, said the issue in question is not about Boko Haram giving conditions.
Also speaking at a press conference of security heads and other stakeholders following the release of the video, the DG of the National Orientation Agency, Mike Omeri, said FG would explore all other options to rescue the girls but would not negotiate with terrorists
"All options are on the table and open, we are interacting with the military and intelligent experts who are already on surveillance in the North Eastern part of the country. We will adopt all available options to get the girls out, but we will not negotiate with the sect"

Jungle justice: Lagos vows to deal with perpetrators
In a statement by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ade Ipaye, made available to Vanguard at the weekend, it noted that in recent times, Lagosians have embarked on the habit meting out instant punishment by lynching, burning or killing suspected criminals.
The Attorney-General warned that the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on anyone caught engaging in jungle justice, no matter what the alleged criminal have done.

Four fake brides and an ex-security guard fixer involved in an eight-month sham marriage scam have been jailed.
Azuha Izegbune, 38 (pictured left), was the mastermind of the visa con - which saw fake weddings staged at registry offices in Birmingham, Stoke and Glasgow.
The former security guard from Birmingham, West Midlands, was paid to arrange fake weddings between Hungarian and Nigerian nationals so they could remain in the UK.
The weddings were arranged so both brides and grooms could secure European Area Residence Cards

Another member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect allegedly confessed at Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua’s church today, stating that he was being paid N2,000,000 to bomb churches.

U.S Marine Corps trains Nigerian soldiers in amphibious warfare
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training which started on April 17, and ended on Thursday was conducted at the Amphibious Training School (ATS), Calabar.
The soldiers were trained on fire team formation, use of micro terrain, preparation for combat, mission planning, shooting position, casualty evacuation, among others.
