And some people have even written that part of the reason the index case was successfully handled was because doctors were on strike and, if not, the index case may have been taken to a public health facility. How true that is I don’t know; but as the Minister of Health, I would want the doctors to call off their strike. In the event that we, God forbid, have more cases, we would need the doctors”.

A Spanish priest infected with Ebola will be treated with an experimental drug that has been used on two Americans infected with the deadly virus, the government said.The drug called ZMapp arrived at Madrid’s La Paz-Carlos III hospital where the 75-year-old missionary was being treated in isolation, the health ministry said in a statement late on Saturday.continue....

NNPC shuts down clinic in Lagos / 2 fresh Ebola cases confirmed in lagos
The Federal government has confirmed two more cases of Ebola virus disease in Lagos. This brings to a total of 9 confirmed cases in Nigeria, seven infected with the disease and two dead.
The federal government also said about 139 persons who have had direct or indirect contact with the confirmed cases are currently under surveillance.
There was panic in Victoria Island today aswell, after a suspected Ebola patient was found to be admitted at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC clinic on Muri Okunola.
The patient was said to have first been admitted at First Consultant Medical Centre around the same time Liberian Patrick Sawyer was being treated at the clinic. Men suited in white safety clothing and an ambulance were seen at the hospital around one 1pm today.
Though there's no definite confirmation that the patient is infected with Ebola, the Management of NNPC Clinic this evening announced the indefinite shutdown of the clinic.
The management said its a pre-emptive step and also said they have reported the issue to the Federal Ministry of Health as well as officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health. More pics after the cut

US Ebola patient Dr. Kent Brantly speaks out - read his statement
Dr. Kent Brantly, one of the two US doctors who contracted the Ebola virus in Liberia, has spoken out for the first time. He released a statement from his isolation room at Emory University in Atlanta where he's being treated after he was flown out of Liberia last week. He is the first Ebola patient to receive experimental serum, ZMapp. Below is the statement Brantly released to the media yesterday

Too early to send experimental Ebola drug to Africa – Obama says
US President, Barack Obama said yesterday August 6th that it's too early to send the unapproved experimental drug, Zmapp serum to Africa where the outbreak of the Ebola virus has recorded more deaths and threatens human existence.
Zmapp serum has proven to be effective in treating Ebola cases as two American doctor infected with the virus in Liberia are currently being treated in the US and are said to have improved after the use of the drug. Continue...
